MMRCA - 2002 Annual Lou Hemphill Memorial Chili-Dog Fun-Fly

Photos and commentary by Andy Steere.

These are pictures from the Mid-Missouri R/C Association's annual Chili-Dog Fun-Fly. This year, in honor of Louis Hemphill, the name was changed to the "Louis Hemphill Memorial Chili-Dog Fun-Fly". It is November 2nd, 2002 and the weather is aweful! Cold, spitting sleet on and off early in the day... then changing to just plain rain about 2:45pm. Felt more like early December than early November. A few hardy souls (fools?) braved the weather and enjoyed GREAT chili (thanks Billy Neal!), good companionship, and some flying. No video clips today.

chili2002_03_320.jpg Jeff Buchner brought out his Kaos and proceeded to fly like most had never seen. Jeff, a pattern pilot doing very well in the regional circuit, usually practices his pattern sequences... regardless of what kind of plane he's flying. Well, today Jeff was doing snap rolls and other fancy non-pattern stuff. Somebody commented that he should try that last inverted pass lower to the ground. Jeff decided he'd do that one better by dragging the tail on the runway....

chili2002_04_320.jpg Only damage was a broken prop. Jeff got a good laugh out of it, as did everyone else.

chili2002_05_320.jpg Heavy coats and hands in the pockets or in gloves was the order of the day.

chili2002_07_320.jpg Troy Hamm, on the flightline with Dan Adams spotting, brought a new large aerobat to the field. Not many flying today. I couldn't get my Gee Bee Y started for anything (loose connection at the ignition module).
