And so it begins.....
My monster project is finally under way, at least 3 dimensionally. I've been gathering information for years, and then recently started cutting out cross sections. But now, I get to see progress in 3 dimensions. It wasn't until we got the new house completed, could I start to lay this critter out. It was simply to big to start on in my old shop. Yes, it's a SR-71 Blackbird, also known as the Sled. This beastie will be 1/8 scale, which will put the final size at exactly 13 feet long, and 2 inches short of a 7 foot wingspan. Final dry weight I'm shooting for, is 45 lbs, and is to be powered by 2 AMT Mercuries.
Note the included cat for scale.

The frame of this critter will be constructed on a 'backbone' that is a 1 3/4 inch steel pipe, to help ensure alignment. I had to make this 'backbone' and the supporting braces from scratch, which was a solid weekend of welding and metal work in the garage.
