Lou Hemphill Pavilion - Construction - Day Four - Ready for Concrete
Photos and commentary by Andy Steere.
This is day four of construction... sort of. It is October 14th, 2001 and the weather is windy, but partly-cloudy and a pleasant 65F. This is one day after our annual "Chili Fun Fly" was basically rained out. This was scheduled to be a heavy work day to get everything ready to pour the concrete floor. However, several members did bits and pieces before this date and very little was left to do. With the rebar securely wired, about all that was left was to raise the rebar above the floor. Two thirds of the concrete was supposed to be above the rebar, and one third below it. See the movie clip below where our member Jerry, with obviously lots of experience with rebar, uses bricks to raise it above the gravel. Since the floor will only be four inches thick, the two inch tall brick was set down about an inch into the gravel and the rebar set on top of it.

This is a wide-angle shot of the whole structure, all ready for concrete. Next weekend hopefully will bring decent weather and a large work crew to begin building the roof.

(Choose a format to view by clicking on one of the two links provided.
The native format for the video camera (Olympus C-700UZ) is Apple Quicktime MOV. This
version will produce the
best picture and sound possible, but the file sizes are large. The Microsoft AVI files
were converted using Lead Multimedia Converter and while much smaller... their image quality
suffers (a lot on some movies, very little on others). If you have trouble viewing these
by directly clicking on the link, try right-clicking on the link, choose save to disk, and
play the video ouside the browser. The MOV files require
Apple Quicktime
player or plugin, and the AVI files require
Microsoft Windows Media Player
or similar.
The AVI files are converted using an
Indeo video codec,
if you have trouble viewing the video.)
Club member, and master wire and concrete guy, Jerry Windsor works while our committee chairman Jeff Buchner (aka "BoardHead") assists. The voice in the background is Mike Lyon, vice-president and field-marshal... who, along with president Andy Anderson, foreman Robert Perkins, and myself, watch from the sidelines. Always plenty of people willing to give advice from the sideline.
