The Canadian Forces Snowbirds - 2002 Salute to Veterans Airshow

These are images and video clips of the Canadian Military Aerobatic Team called "The Canadian Forces Snowbirds".

The Snowbirds fly the Canadair CT-114 Tutor, a Canadian built jet trainer used by the Canadian Forces as its basic pilot training aircraft. The Tutor weighs approximately 7170 lbs (3260 kgs) and is powered by a J-85 engine producing 2,700 pounds of thrust. Top speed of the aircraft, with smoke tanks attached, is 412 knots (470 mph or 750 km/h).

The basic Tutor is only slightly modified for use by the Snowbirds. Modifications include: a smoke generating system, a unique paint scheme for added crowd appeal, and a highly tuned engine to enhance engine response in low level flying.

With its high manoeuverability and relatively slow speed, the Tutor is ideally suited to the formation and aerobatic roles of the Snowbirds.

This version will produce the best picture and sound possible, but the file sizes are large. The Microsoft AVI files were converted using Lead Multimedia Converter and while much smaller... their image quality suffers (a lot on some movies, very little on others). If you have trouble viewing these by directly clicking on the link, try right-clicking on the link, choose save to disk, and play the video ouside the browser. The MOV files require Apple Quicktime player or plugin, and the AVI files require Microsoft Windows Media Player or similar. The AVI files are converted using an Indeo video codec, if you have trouble viewing the video.)
